Dr. Zoie Diana, incoming Assistant Professor

Dr. Zoie Diana (pronouns: she/her) is an interdisciplinary environmental scientist and Liber Ero Postdoctoral Fellow in the Rochman Lab in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. She is an incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Barnard College of Columbia University. Dr. Diana’s research interests include the (1) sources and fate of pollution, (2) environmental health effects of pollutants on aquatic biota and ecosystems, and (3) solutions-based research on pollution prevention and remediation. Much of this research focuses on microplastics, though she is interested in contributors to global change broadly. She uses approaches and techniques from aquatic ecology, environmental health and toxicology, analytical chemistry, and the social sciences. During her PhD, Zoie co-founded the Duke University Plastic Pollution Working Group and during her postdoc, Zoie co-founded the Paint Microplastics Network. Zoie previously earned her Ph.D. at Duke University in Dr. Dan Rittschof’s lab in the Marine Science and Conservation Division and Integrated Toxicology and Environmental Health Program. She has also served as a plastic waste consultant for the World Bank in South Asia and the Latin America and the Caribbean regions.
