Diana Lab: Pollution Problem-Solving
Barnard College, Columbia University

Welcome! ***Launching July 2026***

You’ve reached the website of the Dr. Zoie Diana’s lab in the Environmental Science Department at Barnard College of Columbia University – launching in July of 2026! We are environmental scientists who aim to better understand pollution to inform evidence-based solutions. To accomplish this goal, we will investigate:
(1) The sources and fate of pollution,
(2) The environmental health effects of pollutants on aquatic biota and ecosystems, and
(3) Solutions-based research on pollution prevention and remediation.
Much of our research focuses on plastic pollution, though we are interested in contributors to global change broadly. Our research uses approaches and techniques from aquatic ecology, environmental health and toxicology, analytical chemistry, and the social sciences. We are an interdisciplinary lab that draws on methods and techniques from multiple fields. We can be found in the field, in the lab, and conducting analysis from our computers.
